Dog Toy Balls Dog Squeaky Toys ...

Balls

We couldn’t think of a better place to start than with balls. Dogs of all types and sizes need a good ball in their toy collection. There are infinite options when it comes to balls, so it’s important to choose the right one. Materials play a major factor when picking the right ball for your pup. If you want a ball that will last, a galvanized rubber type might be best. Balls made with cheaper materials don’t last long with a tuff pup. Some balls that are hollow and made with cheap rubber won’t last very long and have the potential to break into little tiny sharp fragments that won’t be good for your dogs stomach. Dogs love tennis balls, but in our experience these don’t tend to last very long with an experienced chewer. In the long run, it might be cheaper to buy a well made ball that will last than having to buy tennis balls all the time. There are far too many variations and kinds of balls to cover all, but keep in mind the type of material the ball is made out of. Also, of course take into consideration the size of the ball. Make sure that the ball is big enough for the size of your dog. We only let our bigger dogs play with the bigger balls, because in the action of playing, balls that are too small can be a choking hazard.

Vibrant Life Rope Dog Toys, 2 Knot Rope Dog Toy

Ropes/Tug of War

Many dogs live for a supercharged game of tug of war. Though sometimes reserved for the bigger dogs, we have seen firsthand smaller dogs having a nasty tug of war streak. Since tug of war is a contact sport, dog owners are obviously going to want something strong that holds together and doesn’t fray at the ends or tear apart easily. This covers a wide array of pull type toys, since there are many out there made to look like all kinds of things, but essentially we are speaking here of toys that are designed to be strong enough to be used as a pulling toy. There are many options today that have some kind of knotting either on the ends or the middle of the toy which helps make the toy more durable as well as providing a good spot for your dog to chew. Thicker knots can be better for bigger dogs or dogs that like to chew hard. Rope toys are great for strengthening your dogs jaw bone and teeth as well, so the there are also health benefits to these toys. Once again, materials are key here. What’s the point of having a tug of war toy that tears apart easily?

Best Bully Sticks - Smoked Pork Femur Bone (10 Pack)

Bones

Dogs in today’s world are spoiled by the plethora of bones/ears/hoofs/horns with hundreds of different spices and flavors that are out there. These are for when your pup wants to strengthen its teeth and have some nice quality chew time, either alone or in the case of one of our dogs, right on top of our laps. Dogs love being able to utilize their teeth, especially on something with a nice, meaty flavor. With these, just be aware of the ingredients going onto the product. While many of these are completely safe and your dog will absolutely love, there have been a few instances of the bone breaking apart or making dogs sick. Also, dog owners should be aware that some of the hoofs/horns that are offered at some pet stores have a distinct and possibly unpleasant odor that emits when your dog is chewing on them.  So if you are concerned about a stinky toy, then think or even read the packaging before you purchase one of these. If you are unsure, look at reviews for the products you are considering for your dog.

Miscellaneous

The possibilities are endless when it comes to indestructible dog toys. We felt the need to include this section because there are so many types of dog toys out there that some may be hard to be defined. So many different types of toys, different shapes and sizes, and ways to play with them. So in this category we wanted to include all the wild toys that are out there that are tought to be defined. In the end, it doesn’t really matter what character it is, the important thing is the actual quality of the product. Just always make sure that the toy is the appropriate size for your pet so that there will be no choking hazard, and make sure that the material is quality enough that it won’t fall apart into smaller pieces that can become dangerous to your pup.

Conclusion… Materials, Materials, Materials!

Whatever toy happens to catch your or your dogs eye at the pet store, there are just a few important things to consider. Purpose, price, and you guessed it, materials. We are firm believers in paying a little more for a higher quality product when it comes to buying toys for dogs. So even though you may initially pay more for certain toys, there are more likely going to last longer and actually save you money in the long run. We may look for deals and wouldn’t pay too much for something that isn’t worth the money, but getting a higher quality toy made with better materials will be cheaper in the long run, and be safer for your pup. Dogs want a toy that will last for more play sessions! What fun is a toy that can’t handle play time?
